Mr. C Knapp
Dear Parent,
In the next few months your son/daughter will be researching your family in order to better understand their own place in history and to obtain a better appreciation of history itself. The family tree was only the start of the project.
Too often history is about an event in the past, about a person who lived hundreds of years ago, or in a country that no longer exists. This assignment is organized for your son/daughter to become involved in the history of your family and to create a record that will be prized for years. What better way to understand history than to discover the past of your family?
If for any reason any of the interview questions you feel are too personal please contact me at Nightingale Middle School.

Mr. Knapp
Course Review:
In our class we will cover Geography, Native Americans, European Exploration, English Colonies, Independence, Constitution, the Early Republic, Growth of Democracy, Manifest Destiny, Life in the West, Mexicano contributions, Reform, African American History, the Civil War and its Consequence, Rise of Industry, Immigration, and America Becomes a World Power.
Projects: Each student will create a genealogy study of his/her family and interview family members. The Presidential race will be emphasized, and projects will be required to obtain the grade of A or B.
Grades:
Grades will be based on a variety items to include tests, quizzes, projects, essays, reading, note taking, cooperation and responsible behavior.
A= 90%-100%
B= 80%-89%
C=70%-79%
D=60%-69%
F=59% and below
Supplies: Students are expected to bring to class each day a pencil or pen (black ink or a dark blue ink), colored pencils with a pencil sharpener, paper notebook, and the History Alive Notebook. You may purchase pencils and paper at the student store.
Absence: You are expected to make up any assignments in case you are absent by asking another student first what work was missed. Then ask me for assistance. I will not ask for any assignments that you may miss: You must turn the assignments into me without being asked. Failure to turn in the assignment/s will result in a grade of F for it.
Individual Responsibility: Students are expected to be responsible in class by behaving properly. You are immediately to take your seats and start to work on the daily warm up exercise. Raising your hand to ask a question or make a comment is simply being a good person.
Other Items: Each student needs a dictionary at home, a library card from a local library, and a supportive parent. Together we will make this a pivotal and rewarding year for all of us.
I have read and understand the requirements of the course. I know it is my responsibility to bring the required supplies, to do the work, and be responsible in class.
